S.O.A.P

You are probably asking “So why do you have the word soap as a link? Simply because it is an acronym. It lso has a double meaning. Soap is designed to clean. So in a sense it is a way to cleanse your soul. It is also an easy way to journal your way through the Bible.
S = Scripture, O = Observation, A = Application, P = Prayer.

If you find it hard to find the time to read God’s word try doing it when you are having a coffee or tea. Everyone always has time when having a coffee. Even if you only get to read half a chapter. It’s a start.

I always pray before I start, asking God to reveal something new and life changing . while reading His Word. He always answers this prayer

If you don’t journal or even know where to start journaling, then this is a great place to start. It can helps you read the Bible in a life changing way. Let me please break it down for you

S stands for Scripture.
When reading God’s Word do you find that a particular scripture verse stands out above the rest. I don’t know about you, but it happens to me all the time. If you find a verse or a passage stands out to you it usually means that God is trying to show you something in that vese. So when I journal I usually write the verse e.g.
John 3:16 Then I write the actual verse.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not Perish but have everlasting life”
This also helps in aiding you to memorize the verse as well. Because we need to lay up Gods word in our heart.

O stands for Observation
When you observer what is happening in the verse, it helps you put into context of in relationship to the verse. In this case I will give an example.

O. “Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus about who He (Jesus) is and He is helping Nicodemus understand that Jesus is the way to salvation.”
I gave a very brief description as to the context of the verse this helps to keep you in ballance and not go too far with the verse. It helps you to keep perspective and not go off on wild unbiblical tangents.

A. Stands for Application
Now this is the exciting part. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is when you actually hear from God Himself. An example in this case could be something like.

A. God’s love is amazing. Even though we were separated from God by Adam’s sin, God had a contingency plan to save us all. He knew Jesus was the only way people could really find freedom and salvation. The key is believing in Jesus. I am so thankful that God sent Jesus to die for me and that I believe in Jesus in my heart. I am so thankful that I am saved and that I will be spending an eternity in heaven. All because my GOd sent his son to die for me. WOW what an amazing LOVE He has for us. That He would be willing to Die for me. He called me into his Glorious light and I am so thankful for that.
Today I will tell someone about God’s great love and what He did on the cross for them if they only believe.

Now that is an example of how I would write the application of this verse.

P stands for Prayer
This is where I pray and thank Him for revealing Himself to me and showing me from His word what he wants me to do with it. for example.

P. Thank You God for speaking to me about your love. Thank You LORD for revealing yourself to me and showing me I how great Your amazing love really is. Thank You for showing me that I need to reveal Your light and love to someone today. Letting them know how you died for them. Thank you Lord in Jesus Name Amen.

So as you can see it is a fairly simple process for your journaling, but it produces profound results. It also helps you to keep your focus on what God is speaking to you about today.

I also suggest at the end of the week re read over your journal to be refreshed in knowing God really does speak to you thorough His word.
